Forget the Summer Body
As women, most of us feel the pull of summer; schedules change, trips are planned and the sun is out! We're excited about time with friends and kiddos, but what about the first time you put on a bathing suit? So many women dread this. We might feel the need to exercise more, eat less or alter other behaviors to attempt to achieve that summer bod we want.
I want to offer you a new way of interacting with your body. This body, YOUR body, carries you all year round. Through the dead of winter, the pollen of spring, the heat of summer and crisp of fall. Your body is there -- lungs expanding, heart beating and feet taking us where we need to go. When you're tempted to think of your body as something merely to be seen (in a swimsuit or otherwise), I challenge you to look past the external appearance of your body to the inner workings of her.
I often ask clients to list five things your body has done for you today. It looks something like this:
1. My eyes allowed me to see the beautiful sky.
2. My tongue allowed me to taste delicious coffee.
3. My lungs gave me the ability to breathe deeply.
4. My fingers are typing this blog post.
5. My arms carried my toddler allllll around our home.
This is my list. What would yours be?
There is power in changing the way we interact with our body. This summer, whether you're in a swimsuit or not, notice the ways in which your body is showing up for you. I promise you can find some!
On your team,
Mary Kathryn
